I've been thinking a lot about TikTok and the way publishers have relied on it, too. It's just kind of shocking to me that we, as an industry, didn't learn after every other social media app stopped being The One, that social media is only *a* way to sell books, and should never be relied on so much.
Great overview of the situation-- if only publishers could learn how to sell books. But I've been saying that since my first book was published in 1992 and thankfully I learned to sell my own books but it's harder today than in the "old days" and the writers I work with are working so hard to get their work out there.
Jennifer, when you say that you’ve learned to sell your own books, do you mean that you’re publishing traditionally but doing your own marketing? Or did you decide to move to self-publishing to have more control?
I’ve hesitated to commit to TikTok for many of these reasons, and the fact that too much video explodes my brain.
I’m still too old-school for Spotify, but my 90s hip-hop is one of my favorite playlist on iTunes !
I’m 100% with you and my playlist is the same!
Very interesting. Thank you.

This is a great read for a severely tech-deficient person.
