No matter what, we UNC football fans are eagerly awaiting Labor Day when the Bill Belichek era begins against TCU. I will admit that all the publicity around Bill’s girlfriend is tiresome and in many ways ridiculous. She’s quite a busybody. However, honestly, their relationship is nobody’s business, especially in today’s world.

But I will say Bill had better earn his 11 million salary or he won’t last too long.

I am a hardcore Patriots fan, and I know he needs to win games there. If that happens, none of this will matter.

You did an amazing job with Russell! Still have a photo with him hanging in my office. And hell yes to all your points here about authors, publicists and media. Bill and his GF lost the plot here, entirely.

Thanks! And yes, they have lost the plot. I just read a story in The Athletic saying she is the one who called off filming for UNC to be in Hard Knocks.

Today I learned that the whole point of the interview was to promote a book. I’m both comforted and baffled to see I’m not the only one who didn’t know 😅

Excellent post. Been on a deep dive ever since I saw the clip. Said dive led me to instagram where I came across him giving her an airplane ride. No further comments.

Brilliant post. As someone who is a UNC grad and lives in Chapel Hill (and in book PR) I am following this closely.

I love everything about this post from the Valentine’s Day journalism class weird assignment, the Bill Russell story, sone Prince truths, and of course the main attraction—the cautionary tale of how not to play a PR person! I’m so glad you shared this! I laughed out load several times! ❤️

This is a great article and a reminder that we can't control headlines! (Also, I admit that I've seen this Belichick clip a couple of times across the internet and... had no idea he was doing promo for a book at all until I read your article here. So it's definitely a distraction from the actual book!)

Thank you! Yes, no one would know he's promoting a book in that clip. Big yikes.
