I was my dad's only caregiver for the last year of his life. That was twenty years ago but those moments have never left me.

p.s. I have good memories from summers at the Jersey shore, too – there's a special quality to the light and air there.

I love it here. My sister lives two houses away from me, so we both feel close to him.

"My mom, who was 100% Italian, cussed him out when she got home from work."

A wonderful tribute of love and laughter with just the right touch of tears. Thank you for sharing this magic, Kathleen. My father passed away many years ago but he never left me. I speak to him nearly every day.

Thank you for sharing this lovely tribute. My dad died suddenly last year, and I've been thinking a lot about the times we kids spent him with him when our mom worked nights. Your memories of afternoon cartoons made me smile.

Kathleen, I had tears in my eyes. I loved the tribute to your dad. I found it especially meaningful that when he told you to get out of your building after the towers were hit, you had faith in his judgement. The detail about leading your whole department away was also meaningful; it's telling the reader something about your character. You didn't go alone, you shepherded.
