As a people pleaser, I want everyone to like everything that I do. But I know it's not possible to write for everyone, and that's only going to hinder my writing. Needed to read this - thank you!

Looks like great advice. It’s funny about reading books. There are just so many! I think you’re absolutely correct in saying you have to write the most true and authentic book you can. Not everyone will like it but that’s expected. As a book editor I’ve written a fair amount on my stack about the publishing landscape as well.

Proper marketing principles being applied objectively to book publishing. So refreshing to see.

Thank you. I've been trying to tell the other 10 authors of our memoir anthology, all very different stories but from women 60 to nearly 80, that we needed to find our ideal audience. (I suggested women over sixty as the ideal audience)

"But lots of people would like reading our stories. My grandaughter loved them, so why limit ourselves?" is the kind of comment that comes from unawareness of how marketing works. Very clear instructive diagrams.

thank you for the shout out! 😊 I loved working on audiences when I worked with Dan Blank on marketing for Self Care... maybe I will share my audience “personas” in a future issue of my Substack!
